Dental Sedation as a Method for Treating Dental Anxiety

Posted .

Does the thought of going to the dentistโ€™s office give you the heebie-jeebies? If so, you might have dental anxiety. At America's Family Dental Tomball, we understand. We want to do all we can to help you feel comfortable at our office. Thatโ€™s why we offer two types of dental sedation.

Nitrous oxide, also sometimes called laughing gas, is a light, flavored gas that is released from a small mask that is positioned over your nose. Once you inhale through your nose for a few minutes, and you will feel relaxed, light headed, and a bit tingly. In controlled doses and under our expert supervision, nitrous oxide is perfectly safe and will help you feel more comfortable while we work on your teeth.

Oral sedation is a pill you take prior to your appointment. Its effects are similar to Valium. Once the medication begins to take effect, youโ€™ll feel sleepy. Depending on the dose we give you, you might even snooze during treatment. If this happens, Dr. Josh Gosnell will be able to rouse you with a gentle shake at the end.

Whether you choose these sedatives for your anxiety is totally up to you. If you have any questions, please call our office at 281.290.8000 and ask our dental team for tips on how to relieve dental anxiety. We are here to help you in any way we can, and we look forward to hearing from you!
